The extracorporeal circulation is used in cardiac surgery for performances on the open heart, i.e. most often during operations on valves and large vessels and by-pass operations. We use the minimized closed system of extracorporeal circulation in our centre. The purpose is to decrease the surface of the foreign environment – the extracorporeal circulation – through which the patient’s blood must flow during the operation.
In this way, we decrease the damage to blood elements and activate as little as possible the inflammatory response of the organism to the operation.
